Abstract

The Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) Program in the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Engineering (CME) at Shepherd University has supported 57 computer science, mathematics, and engineering majors since June 2013. The overall goal of the program is to increase the number of STEM graduates by providing financial, academic, and social supports, which enable qualified students to overcome certain barriers that prevent them from meeting their educational and career goals. During the 2017-208 academic year, 65 new applications were received and 14 new awards were made. In this poster, major activities and outcomes of supported students are presented. Survey and report results from the last academic year, along with initiatives that increase, retain, and support students in CME fields, are also discussed. The project has been supported by the NSF S-STEM grant DUE - 1259713.
