"The 97th annual West Virginia Academy of Science meeting will be hosted by Bluefield State University and the West Virginia Academy of Sciences Executive Committee at Pipestem State Resort on Sat. April 22nd, 2023.

Registration and abstract submission are now open for the West Virginia Academy of Science 2023 meeting. At least one of the authors of a presentation must be a WVAS member in good standing at the time of the conference. All attendees need to register for the conference."

Meals:

 

Nota bene: Pipestem’s Conference Center is remote. Plan on having meals at the attached Resort.

 

Nota BONUS: Bluefield State University is providing a complimentary Breakfast buffet, Lunch buffet, and an afternoon coffee for all registered meeting attendees on the day of the meeting, April 22nd.

The Bluestone Dining Room at McKeever Lodge is a full-service restaurant offering breathtaking views of the Bluestone Gorge. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

 

Black Bear Grill and Lounge at McKeever Lodge is a quick-service dining option for anyone looking for a place to kick back and relax after a long day of adventure. At Black Bear, you’ll find specialty pizzas, as well as a wide selection of craft and local draft beer. View the Black Bear Grill and Lounge Menu. 1) Fill out the meeting registration form (at URL above) and email it to WVAS Treasurer: jwalters@bluefieldstate.edu

 

2) Choose your registration package* and submit fee payment via PayPal (credit cards accepted):

 

WVAS Regular Member - Fac./Profes = $60.00 USD

WVAS Student Member – College and Graduate Students   = $40.00 USD

Junior Academy, HSTA High School, and High School Students   = $20.00 USD

Nonmember - Faculty/Professional = $100.00 USD

**=If you are retired and have been a regular member of the Academy for at least 15 years, you are eligible for Emeritus status. Emeritus members are exempt from further payment of dues but retain all rights of regular membership. To apply, send a written request to the Academy Treasurer. Emeritus status is conferred by majority vote the Executive Committee in accordance with Section I, Paragraph 4 of the Academy By-Laws.

Dates:

  • Abstract Submissions Deadline February 1st – April 3rd
  • Late Abstract Deadline April 7th

 

Information for WVAS presenters:

Poster Presentations: Please bring a cardboard trifold to use as a backer to your poster. Posters will have a provided easel but will need support to keep from rolling up. Please bring stickpins. Posters can be no bigger than 48” wide. Posters can be placed before 9am, after 10am, or before 2pm. We ask no one place their posters during the Keynote presentation. Posters will be placed in the McKeever Lodge breezeway.

 

Podium Presentations: Please bring your presentation saved as a PowerPoint Presentation on a flash drive. You will be presenting from a Windows computer and OS operating system presentations may not function properly. We cannot guarantee that the room will have sound.

Please arrive at your presentation room 5-10 minutes before that session begins. The moderator will upload your presentation to the computer and open all presentations. Podium presentations will take place indicated in the program for the session. Presentations should be 12 minutes with 3 minute Q&A.
